Family Ministry and Octopus Ministry
Pin Chuan is the deacon helping with the Family Ministry and Octopus. The Family Ministry seeks to build strong Christian families in Carmel. Pastor Jabez and the core committee plans and organise events like the Father Son/Daughter camp, the Alpha Parenting and Marriage Courses. Octopus is Mt Carmel’s outreach to exchange students from local universities and seeks to show Christ’s love and plant early seeds in visiting students. He became a Christian at 15 when his friends pestered him to go to church. He agreed to go to stop the pestering. Over the next 6 months, he encountered Jesus and he gave his life to God. After the A-levels, the Lord blessed him with a government scholarship to study Natural Science at Magdalene College, Cambridge University. It was there his faith grew significantly from regular Bible studies, and serving in the Exco of the Cambridge Inter-Collegiate Christian Union. Shortly after returning to Singapore he joined Mt Carmel. He went on to do a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Cornell University and where he then joined ExxonMobil. He has been in several assignments in different functions in Treasurer’s, Controller’s and Public & Government Affairs, in the US and Singapore, and he is now the Treasurer for ExxonMobil in Asia Pacific. He is an avid table tennis player and used to row in “eight boats” in undergrad and graduate school, but nowadays only manages to cycle to keep fit. He is married to Jo-Ann Marie Chan and they have two children, Aiden and Evan.

Youth Ministry and Family Ministry
The best news of my life is when Jesus revealed his grace and love to me in 1984. Not long after, I was called by my church into ministry leadership. Excited and challenged, I kicked off this vocation in 1990. Over here at Mount Carmel, I oversee the Youth Ministry and the Family Ministry. The key youth areas under my care include the Youth Service, DCG (Discipleship Care Groups), youth leaders committee and counselling youths and parents. In the Family Ministry, we conduct courses, talks or retreats that serve married couples and families. In addition, I plan and teach in the pre-marital course for couples, the annual father-child camps and I solemnize weddings. Some of my life interests include movies, delighting in God’s creation, savouring another culture’s delicacies and leaving my footprints in some parts of the world and the beach. My lovely and quirky tribe is tended by my vivacious wife, Sarah, and two children, Letazia and Macarius. I know their names may be a mouthful for pronunciation, but they have got good stories to back up their unique names! If you have a story to tell, my ears are trained and eager, drop me a note here: jabez@carmel.sg
