Prayer For Governments – Global And Singapore’s (24 Apr)

Sing: There is a Higher Throne

Scripture: 1 Timothy 2:1-2

1 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

Scripted prayer

God, almighty and powerful, wise and just are Your ways. Your Word says that everyone is to be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which You have established. For the one in authority is Your servant for our good. And so, we seek Your grace to be with the governments of the world who are confronted with the health crises of escalating proportions daily. Protocols keep changing, and test kits and medical supplies have to be rapidly produced to amply meet the needs. In the meantime, many around the world have lost their lives and a quarter of a million have been infected. Thank You, Lord, that many are also recovering and we pray for more to do so.

Lord, today we want to petition, pray, and intercede for all government leaders as they diligently serve to bring order and ensure that essential needs are met. Grant them, O Lord, knowledge, strength and resolve to work together rather than to find fault with one another. Cause them to seek the ways of righteousness, justice and mercy. Ensure that they lead their countries with honesty and integrity. The leaders must be under tremendous stress to curb the spread of the virus. We ask, Lord, that everyone will abide and submit to the authorities that are in place. Help every citizen, migrant, and work permit holder, wherever we are, to do our part for the good of all!

Father, thank You for Singapore. Thank You for a government that is for the people and has exercised great foresight to ensure our well-being. No country is perfect and while our nation has excelled in many ways, grant that our leaders humble themselves to seek Your face. May they individually seek You and plead for wisdom to tackle the different areas and look for solutions from all angles. Help them, Lord! Thank You God for blessing our tiny red dot, and for keeping us united and strife-free for the past 50 years. Lord, in this pandemic, countries have all closed their borders, and each country has its own unique battle to fight. Singapore has to look after those who have helped to build our nation…not only our citizens…but the migrant workers who have come for employment to provide for their families in their homeland. They, too, have played a critical part to do what many of us are not skilled in or are not willing to do. Remind us, Lord, to treat them with respect and kindness. Through this, may our government investigate those who are oppressed or bullied in some way, and ensure better housing and work practices. Thank You that our government is making great efforts to contain the spread of the virus and have put measures in place so that we can safely do what is necessary. So Lord, as the circuit breaker extends, please continue to work in the nations, in our country, in the healthcare field and all essential services so that we can still continue with what we need till this is over in Your good time. To You we look, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
