Prayer For Media Consumers (28 Apr)
Sing: Whom Shall I Fear
Scripture: Eph 6:14-20
“Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

Heavenly Father, You are our tender Shepherd. During this time when anxiety or the feeling of uncertainty grips us whenever we read or hear the news, shepherd our souls, Lord.
We thank You for the timely up-to-date information via modern technology. At the same time, please help us hold Your Word of Truth as a weapon against the enemy’s schemes. He loves to inject fear and disrupt peace within our souls. Grant us wisdom and discernment, Father, to recognize the evil one’s traps and to stand strong. Bad news does not have authority over our lives. Only You have supreme authority over us.
We pray that as we arise each day confronted by the news from various sources, clothe us with Your full armor to guard our lives from evil. Help us put on the belt of truth to protect us against lies and deception; the breastplate of righteousness to protect our hearts from the temptations we battle; the gospel of peace on our feet, so we are ready to bring Your light to each person You bring to us this day. Give us strength to walk in the peace and freedom of Your Spirit and not be overcome with fear and anxious thoughts. Help us take up our shield of faith. Extinguish all the darts and threats that shake our confidence in You when we hear the gloomy statistics of infected numbers or deaths. We believe in Your power and sovereignty to protect us from despair. Remind us to wear the helmet of salvation to cover our minds and thoughts. Remind us we are Your children – forgiven, set free and saved by Your grace. Wherever we are, help us take up the sword of the Spirit, Your very Word, and encourage those affected by what they read or see in the media. Nudge us, Father, to pray constantly, for all believers and the unsaved ones. Please keep us alert in this valley of gloom and doom to be salt and light. May we be loving and gracious to others just as we are also wrestling in our weakness.
Thank You that when we are confronted with bad news from the media, Your Good New brings us hope and all that we need to stand firm in this age. Your armor shields and protects us. O Lord God, use us to bring light to those who need to know Your Good News as You cover us from the cruel news we face daily. In Jesus’ matchless name we pray. Amen!
