Prayer For Christian Missionaries (2 May)
Sing: You Are My All In All
Scripture: Luke 10:1-12
1 After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. 2 He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. 3 Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. 4 Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.
5 “When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ 6 If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you. 7 Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house.
8 “When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is offered to you. 9 Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ 10 But when you enter a town and are not welcomed, go into its streets and say, 11 ‘Even the dust of your town we wipe from our feet as a warning to you. Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God has come near.’ 12 I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town.
Search your heart and pray as the Spirit leads
Dear Heavenly Father, nothing catches You by surprise. You are the Alpha and Omega – You have always been and You will always be. Please help us wrap our limited minds around this enormous and comforting truth. You are our Sovereign God. Through your Spirit, please remind our missionaries that even in this time of uncertainty, the outcome is assured.
The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. We pray for each missionary personally, that they will walk each day without fear, and with full confidence that they have been placed where they are for such a time as this. We know that this pandemic has made those who are searching more receptive to Your Word. We pray that people around the world will respond positively to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Please give missionaries unprecedented boldness and passion to speak Your truth and to meet the needs of those around them. While many missionaries may find themselves limited by safe distancing restrictions, we pray that You will reveal to them new and creative ways to reach out and to have rich spiritual conversations about You.
We also pray for Your protection upon the missionaries, especially those who are in areas of high rates of infection. Many of them may not have access to good healthcare and may be further restricted from travelling to the main cities where they can get proper healthcare. Please shield them from the virus and sustain them to do Your good works. Thank You that You are our mighty physician and help in times of trouble. We pray that You will keep the missionaries healthy – in mind, body and soul.
Lord, You have revealed Yourself to us through Your Word, and Your commands are all throughout Scripture. Please reveal to the hearts and minds of each missionary the commands and instructions You have for them. Please refresh them, and empower and enable them to be salt and light wherever they are. Open their eyes to opportunities around them, and may the lost who see them see the blameless walk they have and be drawn to know You.
We pray for an awakening and renewed urgency in missions. We pray for effective and practical missionary involvement in praying, giving and going. Your Great Commission can only be completed if we take responsibility in earnest intercession until believers are won and churches are planted. May Your Name be proclaimed among every nation, tribe, people and language, today and for all eternity, in Jesus’ most precious name. Amen!
Sing: Here I Am
Here I amJohn Sung Musical (Mount Carmel)
With nothing in my hands I come to You
With nothing left henceforth I call my own
I now return You what I owe
My life belongs to You
Here I am, here I am
Here I am
With nothing but this body worn and weak
With nothing but one life, one life alone
I bring it as my sacrifice
You ask no lesser price
Here I am, here I am
I’ve been crucified with Christ
No longer I live, but He lives in me
The life I live, I live by faith in Christ who loves me, and gave Himself for me.
Take me Lord
Unworthy though I am to call Your Name
Unworthy though I stand before Your throne
But by Your mercies now I live
My all to You I give
Here I am, it’s all I have
