Prayer Of Response To Jesus, Lord Over Disease And Death (3 May)
Scripture text: Mark 5:21-43
Sermon podcast: Jesus, Lord Over Disease And Death – Rev. David Wong on 3 May
Respond to Jesus
Dear Jesus, thank You for who You are. Through Your Word, You have shown us that You are most Loving, most Good, most Faithful and most Just. We pray, Lord, that as we spend more time reading and meditating upon Your Word, we will see more of You for who You are. More You and less us, O Lord. May the vastness and infinite measure of Your love overwhelm and bring us to our knees each day, Lord. You are our King and Majesty, we surrender our lives to You anew.
We pray, Lord that You will give us faith like the bleeding woman, who believed with her whole mind, body and soul that if she just touched Your cloak, she would be healed. Please take us deeper into our prayer life and intimacy with You. Help us not to be like the crowd who, though were also touching Jesus’ cloak, did not know Jesus well enough to know who He really was, and therefore, any “connection” was meaningless. Instead, Lord, You have made known to us the path of life, and You have promised that You will fill us with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand (Psalm 16:11). We want to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of our lives, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and seek Him in His temple (Psalm 27:4). We know that when we fix our eyes upon Your beauty and Your majesty, we gain understanding from Your Word, and taste honey that is sweeter than that from the honeycomb (Psalm 19:10). Oh how we yearn for that Lord! Speak to us today! For those of us whose heady days of post-conversion zeal are a distant memory, we pray that You will reignite in us that hunger for Your Word, and remind us that You have always been our shelter and our rock.
Just as You told Jarius “Do not be afraid, just believe”, we pray that we will hold fast to this simple command as we go about the week ahead. Indeed there is nothing to fear when You are on our side Lord; the battle has been won. You have conquered sickness and death, You are ruler of all! Help us believe this wholeheartedly – not blindly, but firmly based on the knowledge of Your character and Your promises. Please help us to put aside fear, doubt and skepticism when they start to creep in and get the better of us. We know that Your steadfast love never ceases, Your mercies are new every single morning. We praise You for Your wondrous promises and for walking with us all the days of our lives. Thank You, dear Father. We pray all this in Your precious Name, Amen!
