Prayer To Be Still (16 Apr)

Sing: Only a Holy God (City Alight)

Scripture: Psalm 46:8-11

8 Come and see what the Lord has done,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease
to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
11 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Scripted Prayer

Lord, You are our Almighty God – just, righteous, and powerful. Holy are You that Your heart grieves when we stray from how You created us to be. We are sorry for our rebellion and stubbornness as a people, who have challenged Your sovereignty and tried to live our lives our own way. Lord, there is world-wide chaos and uncertainty now, and even though we may be physically safe at home, our minds are still anxious and unsettled. Help us to block out the daily noise and news updates around us. Help us be still and remember first and foremost that You are God. You are the God Who created the earth; a powerful God who can bring desolation to the ends of the earth and yet also end the pandemic in a second. Thank You for revealing Yourself to us through Your Word. Thank You that You are always with us, our mighty fortress. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
