Prayer For The Sick (17 Apr)

Sing: 10,000 Reasons (Matt Redman)

Scripture: James 5:13-16

13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

You, O Lord, are the Giver of Life! You created each one of us fearfully and wonderfully. Nothing is hidden from Your eyes, not even the virus! Father, we lift up to You the many who are stricken by the virus. We know that a prayer offered in faith can make a sick person well. You know who are sick. We know You love them. There are many afflicted with all kinds of illnesses which have made it far more difficult for them to fight the virus. Those with cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, hypertension and cancer have been the most hard hit, and these people are primarily above the ages of 50. It seems to have struck men more than women too. We know that our lifestyles and habits in caring for our bodies do not please You. We ask that You will speak clearly to all: that their habits of drugs, smoking and drinking are a detriment to their well-being and all the more so in these times. We pray that they will use their funds for food, vitamins, masks, and sanitisers instead. Lord have mercy. Christ have mercy. Please strengthen their immunity. Help their bodies receive the necessary nutrients to fight against any illness a person has and especially this virus. We know that if they are affected, it makes it harder for them to recover. Please send the necessary medical supplies and care so that they get as much resources to enable their recovery. You are God and Lord over all. You are able to heal! As a nation, we commit all who are infected into Your loving hands. Please heal and restore them. Demonstrate Your power, Lord, so that the glory of Christ will be witnessed by all. As a church, please help us to confess our sins to You and to one another. Help us find healing and be set free from the bondages that tie us from the freedom that You desire for us. O how we need to be right with You so that our prayers will be truly powerful and effective. You are our Almighty God. We lift our hands to You in collective prayer in Jesus’ name. Amen.
