Prayer For The Healing Of Our Land And People (29 May)
Sing: Wonderful, Merciful Saviour
Our Gracious Heavenly Father, You are our God, Creator, Redeemer, Lord and Friend. We thank You, Lord, that we are Your children and we can run into Your loving arms of embrace. How blessed we are to be children of the most high God! What a blessing that we can come to You anytime and in any place and You hear us.
Father, we are blessed to live in a small country with national leaders who are doing their best to arrest the spread of Covid-19. Many complain about the government without knowing what it’s like to live overseas and have governments that are unstable, inattentive, arrogant and proud. Our leaders have been working tirelessly to bring Singapore up in 50 years to the level that it is today. And we do not allow ourselves to rest, sometimes to the detriment of our own personal well-being. As in all things, we strive to do our best and for that we are grateful.
Lord, we are thankful that in Singapore, we have the freedom of worship and that about 1 in 5 of us are identified as Christians. We pray that many, especially our government leaders, will know Jesus, who is the Way, the Truth and the Life and choose Him to be their Saviour and Lord! God, You are able to work in ways we cannot see. Thank You for Christians in our marketplace who take seriously their discipleship and want to be salt and light in the nation. Thank You that they are making a difference in what they do and have been impacting lives in our country. There is certainly no lack of people to reach out to in our multicultural and multinational country of 5.85 million people. Many need to know Jesus as their Saviour and Lord. You have brought many people to our homeland for work and some to make Singapore their home. Thank You, Father, for every person – citizens, permanent residents, migrants, work permit holders – who are here and serving as responsible citizens and residents of our country. Open all our eyes to see the reality of You, dear Lord. Use this Covid-19 pandemic to turn our eyes towards You and, in humility, to come before You, the Eternal and Almighty God, for hope and healing.
Sing: Heal Our Land
Father, some workers come under difficult situations, to work in the heat and under the sun to make our nation look beautiful, clean and green. We remember our migrant workers who have toiled so laboriously to build our homes and to raise our standard of living. Father, bless them. Please provide for all their needs and all the more so during this frightening time of Covid-19. This unseen virus is nothing compared to our Almighty God, for You can use this ugly and painful situation to bring love, hope and light for all to see You and look to You. The migrant workers were our oversight, but now we pray that they will be thoroughly checked out for all ailments and any infections that have arisen.
Thank You, gracious Father, for sending out our medically-skilled professionals into the field. They are onsite to treat the migrant workers who, like them, have toiled for the good of our nation. Father, while the medical team work in cool air-conditioned places and the migrant workers in hot and humid places, they are now “stepping” into each other’s presence to care for each other. Thank You, Lord, for this spirit of care, generosity and appreciation that is demonstrated on both sides!
Sing: Days Of Elijah
Father, thank You that so many are availing themselves to be there on the frontlines. Some are volunteering to swab workers for infection at foreign workers’ dorms or at a factory-converted dorm. Depending on the needs, they may be there more than once a week. But for now, we trust You to work out their schedules for them. Father, please protect our friends, our spiritual family members, our beloved family members who are stepping forward. Protect the team they serve with. Grant each and every one on all teams with a strong immunity. Grant them all good sleep each night, excellent hygiene care, strength and stamina to adjust to the hot and humid conditions. Teamwork is so critical and that means healthy and positive relationships, and an encouraging and caring attitude towards one another to have the confidence and cooperation to bring about good coordination among members. Father, grant that the personal protection equipment (PPE) they have will be properly used and will withstand the demands of the tasks they do. We pray against any gaps, cuts, or tears that could arise so that nothing can come in contact with the medical teams’ well-being. We need their skills and abilities to do what many of us cannot do. Thank You for the years of training and experience, and now, also further training that they have against the infectious disease. We pray that they learn well and know how to go about their duties safely.
Precious Father, we also remember those who assist in one way or another. They are counting the cost to lay down their lives for another. They are entering into “enemy territory of the evil one” and also that of the Covid-19. I pray that the precious blood of Jesus will cover them in every way so that nothing can penetrate. I pray that they will adorn themselves with the armour of God with the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, the belt of truth, the gospel shoes of peace, the shield of faith and the sword of the Spirit. I pray that together, physically, emotionally, mentally, socially and especially spiritually they will be protected and totally shielded against any evil and fears. I pray that Your perfect love will cast out fears and that in Christ, they are more than conquerors against anything that is NOT of You! We pray especially that their families will know Your peace even as they support their loved ones on the front. Protect them from anxieties, fears and keep them in good health.
Sing: Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus
Above all, we pray that the love of God, the example of Christ and the power of the Spirit be among them, in them, and work through them to shine forth Your glory and grace. Open the eyes of the migrant workers to see that among the bad, there is good, among the ugly, there is beauty. May the medical teams’ eyes speak compassion and empathy for their plight. The migrant workers have no idea why all this has happened but we pray that they see, above all else, that something is done for their well-being, to protect them against any harm. We commit them and their well-being into the most capable hands of our Almighty God, looking to You for all things at all times in Jesus name.
Thank You, Lord, that You are the Great Physician, and ultimately, healing is in Your hands. Say the word and all will be healed and well. We don’t know why You allow this to happen and for how long. But we know You and we trust You. We are grateful that we have faith, hope and love in You, and together, onsite or offsite, we cast our cares on You Who is able to do far more than all we imagine. Thank YOU Lord!
Sing: You Never Let Go
And so dear Father, precious Jesus and sweet Holy Spirit, as we bring before You our adoration, confessions, thanksgiving and supplications in the days of the Circuit Breaker, we know that Your eyes are upon our nation. Nothing escapes You…not even the minute details of something as invisible as the Coronavirus. Dear God, we seek Your mercies, we seek Your grace, come heal our land and heal all our people…physically, mentally, socially, emotionally and spiritually. Come take Your rightful place in our hearts, our homes, our churches, our workplaces, and in our government.
God, You are omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent. All our days are numbered. You are the God of our days and of our lives. Be near to those who have lost loved ones. Be with the brokenhearted. Reveal Yourself to the lost that they will see You, know You, love You and follow You. Open their eyes and open their ears to hear Your voice calling them. Thank You that You, who didn’t spare Your own Son, who doesn’t give up on us will never give up on anyone who puts their trust in You. So whether we have been spared, affected or inflicted, soften our stubborn hearts and minds to listen, learn and love You completely, love others compassionately and love self correctly. Let us truly proclaim that in You, we live and move and have our beings in every way, that our light will shine before You and wherever we go in our homeland these days, may we proclaim to our own people and tell them how much the Lord has done, and how You had mercy on us. With this, we pray with many others around the world,
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be Your name,
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’
And so may we live for You alone as Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever in the holy and precious name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen!
