Respond to Jesus Who Sends Us On Mission (31 May)
Scripture text: Luke 10:1-24
Sermon podcast: From Kampung To City: Community On Mission – Rev. David Wong on 31 May 2020
Dear Heavenly Father, on this day where we celebrate our 53rd year as Mt Carmel BP Church, we acknowledge Your Lordship over our church and thank You for your provision and your sustenance throughout. Thank You, Lord, for blessing Carmel through its growing years, and for filling its halls and corridors with people who love You and serve You joyfully. We pray that as a church, we will continue to do Your will, carefully discerning the plans You have for us at every stage. Do we focus inward on building community and spiritual growth, or outward on mission outreach? Is now the right time, or should we wait? Where do we invest our God-given resources? Lord, in all these things, guide us, we pray. May our ministry and our footprint as a church always be a pleasing offering to You.
As individuals, Lord, we pray for simple child-like faith to trust You in all things and to ‘travel light’ on this earth. We pray that we will not place undue worth on material possessions, for You have said in Your Word that where our treasure is, there our heart will be also. So Lord, please help us to treasure and to love You more than anything else – indeed Your Word is more precious than pure gold! Please help us to tune our hearts and lives to Your Word, which is alive and active, sharper than a two-edged sword and ever so relevant today.
Please also give us the strength and the confidence to carry out Your Great Commission, knowing that through You, we have all authority in heaven and on earth to bring the Truth to those who need to hear it. Help us to lean into Your awesome majesty and draw courage from the knowledge that You are, and will always be with us, till the very end of the age. Thank You, Lord, for who You are, our merciful and loving Father. We pray that You will prepare the hearts of those whom we have been called to share the gospel with. May the Holy Spirit go before us as we bring the good news – that You died in our place though we did not deserve it, that through Your resurrection You have conquered death and now bring us new life! Oh how wonderful, how marvellous is the message of salvation!
And Lord we also know that You will return to judge, as You have said in Your Word. So Lord, please hasten our lips and our actions – please give us divine speed and efficacy to share our faith with those around us. Until the day we see You face to face, Lord, make us servants of the gospel, single-mindedly bringing glory and praise to Your Holy Name. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
