Prayer For Those Feeling Isolated And Anxious (20 Apr)

Scripture: Philippians 4:4-13
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
10 I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you were concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. 11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
Search your heart and pray as the Spirit leads
O Lord, our God of peace, You have reminded us in Your Word that You are always near, even if we feel far away from You at times. Please help us to rejoice in You always, and especially when we don’t feel like it, to rejoice – again and again! For the strength comes not from us, but You, O Lord. You give us the strength we need to do all this; to stay focused on You, our excellent, lovely and praiseworthy Father, and to put into practice what we have learned from you, so that our hearts and minds will be guarded by Your peace that transcends all understanding. Thank You for this promise, and for the assurance that You, the God of peace, will always be with us, even when we struggle to rejoice.
We especially want to lift up to You those who are struggling with mental health challenges such as depression and anxiety, and who may be feeling even more isolated, disorientated and helpless during this time. Lord, You created us in Your image, different from the animals and all the rest of creation, so that we can appreciate and respond to Your love, and reflect and display who You are – Your loveliness, Your glory, Your majesty. Yet, so many of us have fallen prey to the clutches of fear and doubt, sometimes even to the point of paralysis and physical ailments. Lord, please free those who struggle with mental issues and let them know that You are near. Please wrap them with your love and peace – convict them with Your peace that transcends all understanding! May they experience divine assurance that they’ve never experienced before – that can come only from You Lord, no one else. Please also help them remember that friends and family are always near and that they are not alone in this darkness. We pray for more social support for mental health illness during this time – be it through financial donations or increased volunteerism. Lord, help us as a community support one another, in Jesus’ most precious name. Amen!
