Prayer For Those With Chronic Illness (21 Apr)

Sing: Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Scripture: Psalm 6

1 LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath.
2 Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am faint; heal me, LORD, for my bones are in agony.
3 My soul is in deep anguish. How long, LORD, how long?
4 Turn, LORD, and deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love.
5 Among the dead no one proclaims your name. Who praises you from the grave?
6 I am worn out from my groaning. All night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.
7 My eyes grow weak with sorrow; they fail because of all my foes.
8 Away from me, all you who do evil, for the LORD has heard my weeping.
9 The LORD has heard my cry for mercy; the LORD accepts my prayer.
10 All my enemies will be overwhelmed with shame and anguish; they will turn back and suddenly be put to shame.

Search Your heart and pray as the Spirit leads

Scripted prayer

Righteous and Holy God, great are You Lord! You are my loving Father who disciplines me for my good! I know that Your plans are perfect! You know that I don’t always understand why You allow certain things to happen. I don’t understand Your ways which are higher than mine. Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (Ps. 139:24). When my body groans in pain or my spirit grieves within till the tears I cry seem endless, thank You for opening Your arms of love to me and turning to hear my prayers. I know, O Lord, that I am not alone in my suffering. Many struggle with mental anguish, emotional heartaches, crippling physical pain, social challenges, and spiritual desolation. I can rejoice that this world is not my home and that I do not walk alone. Thank You Jesus!

Dear Lord, I know that suffering draws me to You in deeper intimacy. I am grateful that You hear my cries. Through this purifying fire that I feel I am in, You are shaping me to grow and mature in Your Son’s likeness. And as much as I really wish all this pain will go away, I also realize that my suffering can be a gift to others in comforting them from a place of understanding. So Lord, at this time, I want to lift up before You those with chronic illness. Some have been battling with illnesses for years and are in need of ongoing treatment. However, with this Covid-19 situation, their appointments may have had to be postponed for their safety even as they find ways to cope. Help them, Father! Come to them in their hour of need. I think of those in need of various medical care for muscle and joint pains like arthritis or osteoporosis; those with mental illness like schizophrenia, bipolar disorders, panic anxiety attacks, or dementia; those who have stroke, hypertension or heart conditions; those with respiratory illnesses like asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and so on. In their weakness, be their strength. Protect them against the virus, especially when their immunity is probably weaker. Father, please comfort them with the comfort that only You can give. Pour Your peace on them daily. Strengthen the caregivers who themselves are probably in need of rest. Grant them relief throughout the day. Sustain them and provide for the needs of those who find themselves in such situations. Thank You for being my Lord and God, for watching over me. I am grateful and reminded that You are with me. I pray, Father God, that each person will likewise turn to You and find hope in time of need. In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray. Amen!
