Prayer For The Weak And Vulnerable
Sing: Christ Our Hope In Life And Death
Scripture: Psalm 31:9-16
9 Be merciful to me, Lord, for I am in distress;
my eyes grow weak with sorrow,
my soul and body with grief.
10 My life is consumed by anguish
and my years by groaning;
my strength fails because of my affliction,
and my bones grow weak.
11 Because of all my enemies,
I am the utter contempt of my neighbors
and an object of dread to my closest friends—
those who see me on the street flee from me.
12 I am forgotten as though I were dead;
I have become like broken pottery.
13 For I hear many whispering,
“Terror on every side!”
They conspire against me
and plot to take my life.
14 But I trust in you, Lord;
I say, “You are my God.”
15 My times are in your hands;
deliver me from the hands of my enemies,
from those who pursue me.
16 Let your face shine on your servant;
save me in your unfailing love.
Search your heart and pray as the Spirit leads
Lord, to You I come. You, who created each one, knows every intricate detail in the bodies woven together unseen in the wombs of our mothers. You see beyond the surface to the hearts of man. You discern our motives for selfish gains or selfless acts. You are the God above all!
Almighty, Wonderful Redeemer, save, O Lord, the weak and the vulnerable, the oppressed, the abused, the tortured, the marginalized, the neglected and abandoned. Save them, O Lord, from the miry pit. Still each heart that is anxious, worn and weary from fighting the battles for survival in a time of testing and trails. There are so many who are weak…regardless of their social, economic, and educational status. How often we deny our weaknesses instead of finding strength in You. Awaken us, O Lord, to how You really see us. Help us not hide from You, for in You, there is healing and no shame. In You, we find wholeness, we find shalom.
Lord, please step in to be as a Father to the lonely, frightened, wounded and lost. Shepherd, and guide them to find their way to You. Help them know that You are the truth they have been hungering for deep within. Open their eyes to see that in You, there is fullness of life. All that has transpired around the world lately with this pandemic has caused many to examine their lives to see what is truly worth living. I pray that indeed, it will be a soul-searching time that moves us all to come before You in repentance and find mercy and grace. Lord, Your love is deeper than the sea. Your mercies are unfailing. You are a fortress for the weak. So indeed dear God, cause faith to arise among the most unexpected people and in the most unlikely way that all may know it is Your work and not that of man. Let not the Covid-19 situation blind us from seeing others who are hungry, homeless, or helpless. So many feel lonely and alone. Bring godly people who will point them to Jesus! Use me, O Lord, that I may know how to be a prayer warrior for those in these situations. Show me how I may use my head, heart, hands and feet to be an instrument of peace and a channel of Your love. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen!

Christe Eleison, have mercy.
As we come before You with the needs of our world,
We confess our failures and our sin;
For our words are many yet our deeds have been few,
Fan the fire of compassion once again.
When the cries of victims go unheard in the land,
And the scars of war refuse to heal,
Will we stand for justice to empower the weak
Till their bonds of oppression are no more?
If we love our God with all our heart, mind and strength,
And we love our neighbours as ourselves,
Then this law of love will heal the nations of earth
And the glory of Christ will be revealed.
Lord, renew our vision to be Christ where we live,
To reach out in mercy to the lost;
For each cup of kindness to the least in our midst
Is an offering of worship to the throne.
